Australia's police have suspended the hunt for a young boy who has been disappeared in the outback for almost several weeks, after renewed efforts were unable to discover any evidence of the youngster.

Sequence of Events

The child was spotted enjoying himself around his family property on a remote farmland close to Yunta, about a significant distance from Adelaide, on 27 September.

His grandparent briefly departed for about thirty minutes before checking on him, only to realize the youngster nowhere to be found, triggering one of the most extensive ground and aerial missions in local history.

Latest Status

Police - who do not think there was foul play - say they will carry on investigating, but that the case has become a "recovery mission".

Recently, police temporarily reduced the hunt, only to restart it on Tuesday alongside eighty military members.

"Commissioner the commissioner said authorities were scanning a broader area based on new assessments from medical and operation professionals, rather than any recent developments."

Search Obstacles

On Friday, officials announced that the latest search had not uncovered any evidence of the boy.

"The reality that the young boy is a little boy, the environment is extremely rough, harsh and experiencing variable climate has made the operation difficult and more difficult for those involved," police said in a announcement.

About 470 square kilometers - an area about twice the dimensions of urban center - has now been covered, and a twelve-member unit created earlier this week is anticipated to carry on examining. Officials have not ruled out additional missions of the location in the coming days.

"One can understand just how they are coping... without having answers as to precisely where the boy is and what's transpired to him. This would be traumatic for every families," Official Stevens said.

Via a representative, the Lamont household has previously said they are "overwhelmed" by Gus's disappearance.

"This represents a surprise to our family and friends, and we are struggling to process what has occurred," Bill Harbison said.

"Gus's absence is felt in all of us, and we long for him more than words can describe."
