🔗 Share this article Female Victim Stabbed in Birmingham City Bus Shelter Attack Dies The scene guard remained in place throughout the weekend A woman who was stabbed to her neck area during a random assault at a bus stop in Birmingham has passed away, police have confirmed. The victim, who was 34, came under attack on Smallbrook Queensway street, just outside Bullring shopping complex, shortly before 9 PM GMT Friday evening, according to police statements. It happened right near Bullring mall on Friday The suspect, 21, was presented at Birmingham court on Monday, facing charges for the attack. He was previously accused of attempted murder but following the victim's passing the charge has been updated to include murder. Police Response The force said officers would be in the downtown area on Monday providing public assurance, while detectives assisted the woman's family. Police said they believed the incident constituted "unprovoked" Detectives are appealing any eyewitnesses who might have observed Mr Rafael, identified as a Black British national, reportedly dressed in grey athletic wear, black hat, athletic shoes and rucksack. Incident Location The stabbing happened outside Bullring retail complex, across from the main entrance to Birmingham New Street station. Police said they classified it as a random violent act and Det Insp James Nix said they were working to understand the motive behind. Witness Accounts Shalini Doal, employed in the vicinity, described paramedic and police activity after completing her work period at about 22:00 on Friday. She characterized the location as "quite chaotic", and said some of her colleagues heard loud disturbances at about 21:00. "A lot of my colleagues use transit services, take the tram... our safety is at risk essentially, here in the city centre." Ashley Birks, twenty-five, from Stoke-on-Trent, said he came the city fairly regularly visiting his partner resident there, and was concerned regarding the incident. "It makes me worried about my partner," he stated. "She lacks transportation employed at major concert locations... considering something completely unprovoked occurred, understandably, it's terrible."
