Hodgkinson recorded her personal best of 1:54.61 the previous season in the British capital.

Keely Hodgkinson concluded her two-lap campaign with a win at the women-only Athlos event in New York on Friday night.

{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who secured bronze at the global championships last month, excelled in an outstanding victory in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was just her sixth appearance in a year affected by a hamstring injury.

Fellow Briton and global silver winner Georgia Bell took the runner-up spot again in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) secured third place.

"I've barely raced this season so it was probably easier for me to go out there and be motivated to perform," said the 23-year-old.

"The atmosphere out there is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."

The women-only event packed the stadium in its second year, introducing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with musical performances and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena W., who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis Ohanian, was present to award the victors with their crowns.

Previous champions took home $60,000 (£44,603) - one of the largest prize purses in track and field.

The competition also attracted several top athletes, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and global record breaker Faith Kipyegon won the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:17.78.

The US Brittany B., the 200m bronze medallist from the recent Paris Games, secured the 100m and 200m double.
