Larian Studios Reveal a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The buzz about The Game Awards has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs you can achieve if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also notoriously flexible, allowing players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

More to Come

It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can look forward to more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
